For Mentors

What is a Mentor?
A mentor is a caring, compassionate adult who chooses to devote their time to a young person. Mentors offer support, guidance, and encouragement. If you can donate 30 minutes a week, you can change a life by helping a child build confidence, a solid foundation of values, establish goals, improve their academic and life skills.
According to Mentoring.org, with a mentor, at-risk youth are 46% less likely than their peers to start using drugs and 55% more likely to be enrolled in college. Mentors do make a difference!
Mentoring takes place once a week for 30-60 minutes, during the school year only. Mentoring occurs either in-person at the school or virtually using Take Stock in Children’s MentorApp where students and mentors can talk via video or texting. The days and times of mentoring sessions are arranged between the mentor and mentee depending on their individual schedules and classes. In-person mentoring may be available at the student’s school per the school’s guidelines.

The first step to becoming a mentor is to fill out a mentor application by clicking here. After your application is received, you will then be asked to complete a mentor training online followed by a background check and signing release forms. All this can be done virtually.
